We were tasked with producing an animated video based on a reference — but with a more realistic look, adapted specifically for 3D billboard formats. Below are some frames from the reference.
We began building the scene. Some elements were modeled by hand, while others were sourced and refined from online assets.
The first version we sent to the client didn’t pass approval. Their feedback: “The bears look too realistic and aggressive. Let’s add a more cartoonish feel.”
We replaced the bear models, enlarged their noses for a cuter look, and adjusted the textures to make them softer and fluffier. The client approved the new version — we moved on to animation.
To animate the bears, we created full custom rigs. Let’s be honest — it wasn’t approved on the first try. Some movements were too sharp or intense. We had to dial in a feeling of “care” and warmth. On top of that, the runtime was limited. By the fifth revision, the animation was finally approved.
The final animated video was ready. We adapted it for more than 10 different 3D billboards across the city. Below is an example of how it looked in one of the placements.
